AURELA Researchers at EISA-PEC 2026 in Lisbon
From 1 to 4 September 2026, AURELA researchers participated in the 19th EISA Pan-European Conference on International Relations (EISA-PEC) conference, held at ISCTE - University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal. Professors Rafael Mesquita, Carlos R. S. Milani, Ana Paula Tostes, and Layla Dawood presented their research in separate panels, which touched upon some of the themes covered by the AURELA project, such as EU - Latin American relations and climate governance.
Rafael Mesquita presented “The Concept of Autonomy in European and Latin American Foreign Policies,” co-authored with Kevin Parthenay; Carlos R. S. Milani presented “The Anthropocene, the Climate Emergency, and International Relations from a Global South Perspective”; Ana Paula Tostes presented “Cooperation under a Conflicting Order: Europe-South America Relations,” co-authored with Yordan Renne; and Layla Dawood presented “Regional Security and Spheres of Influence: Advancing a Neoclassical Realist Reading of Regional Subsystems.”
The participation of AURELA researchers at EISA 2026, supported by funding independent of the CAPES-COFECUB resources allocated to the project, reflects their engagement with ongoing debates on autonomy, Europe–Latin America relations, climate change, and international security, while fostering an opportunity for networking with other academics working on similar topics.
